Finding Fresh Outfit Ideas: A Splash of Inspiration Is All It Takes

I’m pretty proud of myself because I felt amazing in an outfit that I put together mostly from my own closet. All the pieces are over a year old, with the top being much older. Even better, the top, skirt, and shoes were bought on sale. The only new item is a necklace that I got for $25.

I often tell people to shop from their own closets, but like many, I’m easily tempted by new things. I shop a lot, but I manage to resist by just not going to the stores. I’m so busy that I don’t have time, and online shopping in Singapore isn’t as easy, especially from my favorite US stores, so the temptation is usually manageable.

My latest post was influenced by my mood for adding more color to my closet. I saw an inspiring image of a woman wearing red, orange, and pink, which led me to write about how to wear red. I realized I already had most of these colorful items in my closet, so the urge to shop disappeared.

The pink top I wore may look familiar since I often wear its red version. It’s one of my old favorites from the now-retired brand Alldressedup, known for its beautifully draped back that makes me feel glamorous. I paired it with my all-time favorite skirt from Donna Karan, one of the few body-hugging skirts that look great with tucked-in tops due to its front draping.

The shoes, which I wear often, are by Chie Mihara and feature the color orange. The outfit was completed with a lovely necklace by Estdioshp, a brand I discovered through a comment on my article about the best online stores for statement jewelry.

This combination felt fresh and modern, even though all the pieces were old. It came together from a simple idea and a color palette inspired by an image.

I encourage you to look for inspiration around you, whether it’s in nature, images, or even buildings, and see how you can incorporate those elements into your outfits.

I’m planning to wear this outfit again for Fashion Week in Singapore. I didn’t buy anything new for it, so I’ll be shopping my wardrobe a lot. I’m excited to see designers like Diane von Furstenberg, Victoria Beckham, and Thakoon, along with some local talent. I’ll keep you posted on my experiences, and you can follow my fashion adventures on Instagram.

Try looking in your closets first for new outfit ideas, and have fun shopping your wardrobe! What has inspired your outfits lately?
