Journey to Tromso, Norway – A Travel Journal

This year, we decided to skip skiing and head to the far north of Norway, specifically to the city of Tromso. Located within the Arctic Circle, Tromso is a breathtaking winter wonderland, even in April. In August, it’s known for the Midnight Sun.

We stayed at Malangen Brygger, a cozy hotel an hour’s drive from the city center. The hotel offers stunning views of the water and mountains. To get there, you’ll need to drive along snow-covered roads. We were impressed with how well our car, equipped with winter tires and spikes, managed the snow.

Our accommodation was a charming holiday house managed by the hotel. You can tell it’s privately owned from the lovely decorations and the well-equipped kitchen appliances and utensils. The views from the house were absolutely stunning.

There was also a sauna on the property, offering a unique experience with a view. The picture below shows how deep the snow was. Nearby, there are hills perfect for walking and sledging. That little blue dot in the photo is my husband sledding down the mountain.

Here’s a glimpse of Tromso. While it’s considered a big city by locals, it still has a quaint village feel. The views from our hotel were magnificent. Sadly, I didn’t manage to capture any photos of the northern lights. We did see them, though faintly. I have a lot more photos from our activities and our trip to Oslo, which I’ll share in upcoming posts.

You can learn more about Tromso in part two of this travel report. Would you fancy a trip to the Arctic Circle?
