The Unexpected Perks of Feeling Bored by Your Wardrobe

What’s your go-to outfit from your closet right now? Is it usually something new? For me, it almost always is! One of my top shopping rules is to only buy something if it’s nicer than what I already own, except for basics or replacements. That’s why my newest clothes usually end up being my favorites.

I’m always excited to wear new outfits and feel fantastic in them, often repeating them a few times in the same week. But no matter how fabulous an outfit is, I rarely keep wearing it over and over.

My “Issue” With Clothing
One challenge I face with clothing is that I quickly get bored with an outfit, especially if it’s a print. I used to think this was a big problem, but now I see the upside! Not wanting to wear the same outfit forces me to mix and match, leading to new and creative combinations that often look just as good, if not better.

Important Buying Rule
Because of this, I follow another rule: anything I buy should work with at least three other items in my closet. For example, my friend Greetje showcased her new green leather jacket paired with both a long a-line skirt and a pencil skirt. She used to stick to complete outfits from shops, but now she’s getting creative with mixing and matching. I loved both combinations, and she plans to try more. That jacket can easily go with different pants, skirts, and even dresses.

Why Getting Bored Is a Good Thing
Getting bored with clothes can actually be beneficial. It pushes you to:

– Buy versatile pieces.
– Be creative with your wardrobe.
– Keep your look fresh and exciting.
– Have fun with fashion.

Of course, you need to be careful not to let boredom lead to more shopping. It takes discipline to explore your current wardrobe instead of buying new items. But knowing you get bored easily can also help you shop smart, maintaining a good mix of basics and standout pieces.

Do you get tired of your outfits quickly, or do you enjoy wearing the same ones repeatedly?
