Styling a Statement Necklace from Daytime to Evening

In my article on transforming an outfit with jewelry, I mentioned that I got to pick two pieces from the Jewelry to your Doorstep collection. One of the pieces I chose was a detailed fish necklace, which I wore both during the day and at night.

On this particular day, we visited Haw Par Villa. I’ve mentioned this place before after a fun photoshoot we did there. The park was created by the Aw brothers in 1937 and features over 1,000 statues and 150 large dioramas that depict scenes from Chinese mythology, folklore, legends, history, and Confucianism. It’s a fantastic spot for taking photos.

I wore an old gray dress, which I believe is from Guess, that I bought in Rome. It brings back great memories and is perfect for casual days. I could wear it alone, but I prefer adding something on top because the color feels a bit too pale on me now.

You’ll recognize the shirt from my Etosha Park posts. It’s a light, easy-to-wear shirt, and I like how it looks tied in the front. The dress is somewhat sheer and feels a bit like a mini skirt, with a cotton layer inside that just about covers my bottom. I don’t mind because the sheerness is fun and sexy, plus the dress covers my legs and part of my knees.

One of the main attractions in Haw Par Villa is the Ten Courts of Hell, which graphically depicts scenes of Hell from Chinese mythology and Buddhism. The scenes are quite bloody and not for the faint of heart. I’m standing in front of the entrance gates, already feeling judged by the two guards.

Haw Par Villa is a great place to learn about Chinese mythology and is definitely worth a visit when you’re in Singapore. My friend Anja, who is a big fan, has written a lot about it on her blog.

In the evening, I tried a different look by buttoning up my shirt and even embracing a bare midriff trend in a subtle way. This airy look is perfect for Singapore, especially if you’re going to an outdoor bar. The fish necklace was a great accessory for this look too.

Dress: Guess (old)
Shirt: H & M
White shoes: Hoegl
Necklace: c/o Jewelry to your Doorstep
Skirt: Preen
Fuchsia shoes: Hoegl

So, what do you think of these outfits and the leg and midriff showing? How would you transition a statement necklace from day to evening?
