With summer just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about your summer wardrobe. Do you have everything you need to look great and feel fantastic this season? What key pieces could really elevate your style?
One helpful tip is to focus on a few trends you love rather than trying to include every new trend. Pick one or two that really stand out to you and build your new wardrobe pieces around them. Once you’ve chosen your favorite trends, review your current wardrobe to see if you need more basics to support these trends and identify any standout pieces you might need to buy.
This approach allows you to create a small capsule wardrobe that can give you a variety of outfits.
Choosing Your Trend(s)
Looking at the spring/summer 2014 trends, I’m really into wide trousers. Although I have a few pairs in my closet, they’re pretty old and need replacing. So, wide trousers are on my list.
I also need a great jacket. While I like short and boxy styles, I might go for something more fitted. I’ve always wanted a leather jacket and still do. Since I’ll be spending the summer in The Netherlands, I need more jackets to handle the unpredictable weather there.
I love the ‘arty asymmetry’ trend and already have some pieces, but I’m on the lookout for a new dress with an asymmetric design. The ‘opposites attract’ and ‘knee-high skirts’ trends also catch my eye and are already staples in my wardrobe. I also adore the ‘arty and colorful’ trend and might pair that with my new wide pants.
Main Focus: Wide Pants and a Fabulous Short Jacket
This season, my main focus will be on finding wide pants and a short jacket. I’ve been searching for both, but wide pants seem harder to find in stores right now.
Here’s what I’m looking for in wide pants:
– Preferably white or light-colored
– Not too thin or see-through
– No prints
– Minimal or very subtle pleats, with a good fit around the waist
– Made of cotton or high-quality linen
– Suitable for various occasions, not too casual
– Long enough to wear with heels
For the jacket:
– Plain and good quality, preferably in a color other than black, maybe a pastel
– Versatile enough to pair with multiple outfits
Complementary items to these two main pieces include:
– An arty or draped top
– Pointy sandals and flats
– Pointy pumps
– A fabulous silk blouse
– A good basic white top
I’ve already found a great jacket, but the perfect wide pants are still out there. I’ll just have to be patient.
So, what trend do you want to add to your wardrobe this season? What do you need to buy to create a capsule wardrobe around that trend?
