Can You Ever Skip Figure-Flattering Fashion?

During our bloggers’ get-together, both Suzanne and Anja mentioned they often miss seeing my figure in my outfits. They prefer when I wear clothes that emphasize my waist and show off my figure more.

I do appreciate clothes that flatter the body and highlight your favorite parts. That’s a big part of my style courses and many articles on my site. However, since I’m content with most of my body, I don’t always feel the need to highlight my best features. I feel sexy and confident without doing that. I aim for “flattering enough” rather than always picking the most flattering outfit.

I enjoy experimenting with different silhouettes. I love drapes, straight lines, asymmetry, A-lines, loose tops, longer skirts, and cropped pants. With my mostly rectangular shape, I feel I can pull off a variety of styles.

I generally follow the “rules of flattery.” For instance, I often pair tight clothing with loose pieces. If I’m not showing my legs, I might show my arms. If my outfit feels overwhelming, I add a belt.

Sure, my body might look more flattering and sexy in tighter tops, body-hugging dresses, and waist-emphasizing outfits. Sometimes, I do wear those when I’m in the mood or for the right occasion. However, sexiness, bombshell looks, and tight clothes aren’t my style personality. My style is about fun, comfort, asymmetrical lines, unique shapes, natural fabrics, and geometry.

I don’t like to show cleavage. If I wear a low-cut top, I balance it by not showing much leg. I often forgo tight skirts that restrict movement, opting instead for skirts with elastin. I prefer comfortable shoes I can walk in. While I do enjoy waisted looks, they can be too hot in warm climates like Singapore, so I often choose more comfortable, waist-surrendering outfits, though I still wear waisted looks regularly too.

Style is a personal thing. You should dress to please yourself, not others. Choose clothes that make you feel comfortable and sexy. For some women, that might mean highlighting features like a generous bust, small waist, or sexy legs. For others, it’s about dressing in a more artistic way and letting go of emphasizing the waist.

In my opinion, it’s enough to aim for flattering, rather than always seeking to be as flattering as possible.

How do you feel about this? Do you always dress to flatter your body? Do you like to look sexy?
