Last week, I talked about my personal style choice to wear my newest and nicest clothes as often as possible. That’s why I wore my golden silk top again, which you all voted as the most popular of my fashion week outfits. This week, I paired the top with my red Donna Karan skirt. I really love the red and gold/brown combination, and I added an animal print belt for a casual twist.
I’m also wearing a belt with beads and stones in red and brown to add some texture. Although these kitten heels aren’t exactly animal print, they have a nice textured leather that adds an extra dimension to the outfit. I’ll talk more about kitten heels later!
I wore this outfit to the 20th anniversary party of The Finder Magazine in Singapore, held at the Ion Art Gallery. Coincidentally, both Anja and I wore golden outfits with similarly themed shoes. She jazzed up her shoes with fabulous accessories from Heels Diva. I absolutely loved her look!
The gallery showcased the work of talented pop artist Burton Morris. While I admired many of his paintings, the $25,000+ price tags were way out of my budget.
Now, let’s talk about kitten heels. Specifically, the open sandal with a kitten heel that I wore. Many people aren’t fans of kitten heels, and to be honest, neither was I. I always preferred straight, blocky heels which looked more modern and edgy to me. Kitten heels seemed too ladylike and even a bit aging.
However, I was drawn to the print and texture of these shoes. Initially, I tried wedges in the same print, but they didn’t fit well. So, I gave the open kitten heels a shot, and they felt incredibly comfortable. The open front and back made them perfect for the humid Singapore weather, and they matched many of my outfits.
In the excitement, I forgot that open shoes with kitten heels might not look very modern and can sometimes age women over 40. A stylist I recently met shared this opinion, suggesting that women over 40 should opt for shoes with closed fronts and backs. Since I believe that trendy shoes can make you look youthful, I began to wonder if I made a mistake with these kitten heels.
Looking back at the pictures, a closed front might have looked trendier. Still, comfort is a priority for me, and sandals are much more comfortable in Singapore’s weather. The shoe’s great pattern and texture counteract the aging effect of the open kitten heeled sandals, and the kitten heel makes them almost as comfortable as flats.
So, even if these aren’t the trendiest shoes I could have picked, I still think they’ll become a favorite. They’re versatile, go with many outfits, and did I mention they’re comfortable?
What do you think about kitten heels? Are they a good choice for women over 40? Do you find open toes and heels more aging, or can the design and print make a difference? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
