Mastering the Art of Layering for Changing Seasons

When it’s winter or just cooler out, layering your clothes becomes essential. This approach is also super handy for transitioning between seasons.

I recently spent some time in Europe and wore a variety of outfits perfect for the shift from winter to spring, especially in February. Although I didn’t get to capture many of these looks during my trip, one winter afternoon I got my friend Greetje (from the blog No Fear of Fashion) to snap some photos and show how she styled a few of my pieces.

Many of these clothes are still available and even on sale. They are timeless and versatile additions to your wardrobe.

First up is the printed artful dodger tunic. It’s great on its own, but also fantastic for layering. Pair it with a short jacket or a long, textured cardigan, which is an excellent piece for transitional weather. The shoes I’m wearing are from Antelope Shoes.

The tunic stands out on its own thanks to its unique design. Greetje demonstrates how well a long layering vest with asymmetric detailing works for her inverted triangle shape, balancing her silhouette perfectly when worn with over-the-knee boots.

Another top she could pair with high boots (unavailable now) is included too. A high-low jacket from Stella Carakasi is another cool layering option, made from warm wool.

Greetje wears a long sleeveless coat, which is ideal for layering. This look is particularly flattering on her as it emphasizes a tailored fit on top and a V-line shape at the bottom.

In one photo, she also sports my current favorite necklace from In Good Company. She’s wearing the same blouse with a short jacket, which pairs well. Don’t forget to scrunch up the sleeves to highlight your waist.
