A Quick Trick to Elevate Your Style with More Creativity

Tomorrow’s going to be pretty busy for me. I have a hairdresser appointment, need to do some shopping, and will be attending a PR event. With jet lag hitting me hard, getting out of bed in the morning is going to be tough.

I’m more energetic in the evenings, which is when I usually get a lot done. This morning, I overslept and had to rush, leaving me just 40 minutes to shower, get dressed, put on makeup, and gather my things. Not the best start to the day!

So, I decided to be more prepared tonight by choosing my outfit in advance. I’m so glad I did because this morning, I was facing the typical 40+ woman’s dilemma: What to wear? Despite having a closet full of beautiful clothes, I sometimes feel like I have nothing to wear since I get bored with my usual combinations.

By preparing ahead, I had time to think about new outfit combinations with the clothes I already own. I tried on a new asymmetric striped dress but couldn’t find the right match for it. Then I remembered my resolution to wear more of my nicer clothes that usually stay hidden away. I paired my silk skirt with its usual matching top. It was acceptable but not exciting.

So, I went back to my closet, browsed through my tops, and found a perfect casual one that made the outfit trendy and less formal. Paired with my new red bag, it felt right and fit perfectly with the graphical trend I love.

This outfit only came together because I took the time to think creatively and mix different pieces. Normally, I don’t take that time and end up in something boring.

My tip: Take some time to plan your outfits the evening before. This way, you can be more creative with what you already own. You might find that new pieces go well with items you’ve had for a while.

I ended up really liking the outfit I chose and even found that the top pairs well with an older denim skirt, giving me a more casual choice. I’m not sure which outfit I like best.

How do you prepare your outfits? Do you plan ahead or dress at the last minute?
