This week in Singapore is all about fashion. Designers like Carolina Herrera, Nicolette Dinnigan, and Hussein Chalayan came to showcase their stunning clothes. I got to attend a few shows and events, and I’ll be sharing highlights in the coming weeks.
I’ve been wanting to try out a look that combines a loose top with a tight skirt. I love this style for winter with a wide sweater, but since it’s too hot for sweaters in Singapore, I had to create a summer version. I chose an old Zara t-shirt that’s longer and wider at the back. To show off my belt and waist, I semi-tucked the t-shirt—a popular look online right now.
This kind of outfit is trendy because it mixes structured pieces (like the skirt) with unstructured ones (like the shirt). It’s also a great way to dress down your more formal clothes. You can swap out heels for flats to make the look even more casual.
It felt like a perfect modern and casual look for a day event at fashion week. It looked chic with my new clutch from Unika Designers, which can be rolled up or held as a bag.
Of course, I needed to carry more stuff (camera, iPad, etc.), so I went with a practical red bag instead. My gel nails added a funky touch to the outfit.
Later, I wore the same skirt with a grey checkered top and a black and white belt. For more ways to style this skirt, you can see it paired with a grey/white silk top or a white blouse.
I really enjoyed the first look because it was trendy, comfortable, and casual. Have you tried combining something structured with something loose and flowy?
