Yesterday, I took some time to think about my personal style and why I believe my clothes don’t always need to be figure-flattering.
Both Suzanne and Anja were curious about how certain clothes would look on me. Suzanne enjoyed the previous clothes-swapping experiment where Anja wore my outfits, so she suggested it was my turn to try on Anja’s clothes.
We had the perfect chance to experiment during a fun, chaotic morning with all four of us bloggers dressing up in wild outfits. It’s always a bit crazy when you gather four bloggers in one room! I love the glamorous photo from Suzanne and the funny shots from Suzanne and Greetje.
When it came to trying on Anja’s clothes, we got serious—no wigs or silly hats. We needed to answer some important questions: Would I look better in Anja’s clothes? How would I feel wearing them?
Look 1:
First, I tried on a dress. I liked its colors and graphics but found the V-neck too low. I’d be uncomfortable wearing this dress anywhere other than a beach or a nightclub. It’s very body-hugging, highlighting every curve, which made me feel self-conscious. Despite some positives from one angle, it wasn’t for me.
Look 2:
Next was a green skirt paired with an animal print top. I felt more comfortable as the skirt was knee-length and the top offered more coverage. However, after looking at the photo, I realized this outfit isn’t for me. The animal print top, especially paired with a satin skirt, didn’t suit my taste. A jacket might have balanced the look, but in general, tight printed tops just aren’t my style. I prefer looser designs in natural fabrics without prints.
Look 3:
The third outfit seemed more my style. The proportions were good, with the belt accentuating my waist, and the V-neck working well with the knee-high skirt. Nevertheless, it’s not something I’d wear. I felt the colors aged me and once again, the V-neck was too deep for my liking.
Look 4:
I felt best in the fourth look. This outfit had more structure with a peplum, balancing skin exposure with coverage. The dress looked great on my body, but it had too much going on in terms of pattern, and I’m not a fan of all-over floral prints.
Look 5:
The last look was a green printed dress with another deep V-neck. The overall pattern didn’t inspire me. However, it turned out to be fun for creating some Marilyn Monroe moments. Adding a pink wig gave it a playful twist. After all that dancing and posing, it was time for a break and some fun photos with Greetje.
To summarize, as I mentioned before, personal style is very individual. Although Anja’s clothes fit me, they didn’t feel like me. I prefer clothes with more structure, natural materials, asymmetry, no deep V-necks, and fewer prints. This experiment confirmed my personal style, and I’ll stick to it!
Swapping clothes with friends works best if your styles are similar. Since Anja’s and my styles are quite opposite, it didn’t work out perfectly, but it was a fun experience. What do you think? Do you like me in Anja’s clothes?
