Celebrating Individuality: Encouraging Women to Appreciate Diverse Fashion Choices

On my website, 40plusstyle.com, I love showcasing all sorts of women, from the conservative to the bold. You can check them out in the “What You Wore” and “Style Interview” sections. What’s common among all the women I feature is their unique and confident styles that are truly their own.

I highlight these women because I admire how they express themselves through fashion and feel confident in their unique looks. Even if their styles don’t match mine, I appreciate how their clothing reflects their personalities in such a fabulous way.

I especially enjoy featuring women with bold styles because they show that you can dress however you like and express yourself through clothing. It’s okay to take risks with your style. This can inspire many of us to be a bit more daring with our outfits, even if it’s just adding a colorful scarf.

Unfortunately, whenever I showcase a distinctive style, I often receive negative comments, particularly on Facebook. These remarks aren’t constructive but rather insulting, and it always surprises me.

Why do some women feel the need to put down someone else’s style? Why not celebrate the confidence and uniqueness in how someone dresses?

I shared a post about this issue on Facebook and got a lot of support from followers who were also puzzled by the negativity. But, a week later, I was back to moderating and deleting negative comments.

Although critics are usually in the minority, I’ve noticed that women can be harsh on one another and quick to judge appearances, more so than men.

In my style courses, I encourage women to step out of their comfort zones a little. Many try new things, adding prints, trying more colors, wearing scarves, or mixing up their shoes and bags. However, there’s often resistance because women fear criticism from other women or their husbands. They worry about others’ opinions or being told they’re too old for something.

That’s why I always say to dress to please yourself first, because you can’t satisfy everyone else. Wear what makes you happy and suits you.

I don’t expect everyone to like every style I post. We all have different tastes and unique styles, and that’s what makes fashion great! But, I hope you can appreciate someone else’s style and find some inspiration in it. Whether it’s their accessories, color choices, or the confidence they exude.

Let’s support each other and encourage every woman to embrace her unique self. Neither I nor my readers are interested in criticism.

Celebrate Unique Style!

All the women featured on my site are special, and at 40+Style, we CELEBRATE STYLE in all its forms. We are all unique and style is a wonderful way to express ourselves. From now on, I’ll use the tag celebrateuniquestyle on all my photos.

And remember: style only gets better with age!
