When I was in New York, I had the awesome pleasure of visiting Sue Kreitzman, the talented artist known from the Fabulous Fashionistas movie.
I interviewed her for my style series, and you’ll see that interview this Wednesday. I’ll also share more of her amazing art collection in the coming weeks.
Today, let’s talk about Sue’s apartment and the outfit I chose for our meetup.
Knowing Sue’s love for color, I had to wear something vibrant. With a limited wardrobe in New York, my options were few, but I was thrilled with this newly thrifted silk blouse from a consignment store. It has cool cutouts in the front and back, as you can see when I’m admiring Sue’s artwork.
I paired it with statement drop-crotch pants by Stella Carakasi and shoes from Lisa Tucci. In Sue’s studio, I was captivated by some of the necklaces, especially those from her collaboration with Anothai Hansen.
One standout piece was an African beaded necklace Sue found in London. She and Anothai added a stained glass piece and an eye from some fun costume jewelry, making it a protective and beautiful piece.
Another favorite was a necklace made from African pieces and machine parts. Sue shared many fantastic stories about her art, and I’ll reveal more in a few weeks.
Here’s another striking necklace that didn’t quite go with my blouse but would look fabulous with a simpler top. It features a mask from an African market in Harlem, a beaded belt from a charity shop, and a red gem from a dollar store, all enhanced with a nice touch of turquoise.
Sue’s love for her art is evident, and she loves being surrounded by it all. I’ll share more from my visit soon, where you can hear directly from the amazing Sue.

Would you wear statement pants like these, or do you think they’re a bit too bold?
