How Often Do You Choose to Wear Your Best Outfits?

When I buy something new or rediscover an item in my wardrobe, I tend to wear it several times in different outfits. It’s not only economical to reuse clean items, but it’s also fun to wear pieces you really love. New items usually become my favorites, and since I get bored of clothes quickly, I try to wear them as much as possible.

There are generally two types of women: those who save their nice clothes for special occasions and those who wear their new items right away. I’m definitely in the second group. I think it’s important to wear your good clothes often to get the most use and enjoyment out of them while they’re still fresh.

If you tend to save your good clothes, take a look in your closet. How many times have you worn those special items? Do you still love them as much as when you first bought them? Why are you saving them?

If you find that you rarely wear your good items or no longer like them, it might be time to change your approach. I wear my good clothes every chance I get. For instance, when I went out for a casual dinner with my family at a local restaurant, I could have dressed down like my husband and son did. But where’s the fun in that? Why not dress up a bit and enjoy something new?

The outfit I wore for that dinner wasn’t planned and isn’t perfect by any means. I threw it together in less than five minutes because the occasion was casual. Taking a picture helped me see a new outfit combination and gave me ideas for future looks.

Some details about the outfit: the necklace is an old favorite from Alldressedup, and the bracelet is a plastic piece from The Netherlands. My watch is a 20-year-old piece from Bruno Nimaber. You’ve seen the shirt before (it’s from Cos), and I featured the new Bimba & Lola skirt in my article on my 5 fashion week outfits. The shoes are from a recent sale at CK Calvin Klein and are my current substitute for open booties on my wish list—they’re super comfortable and perfect for a casual dinner.

The hat, a lightweight black one, was worn especially for The Style Crone’s hat celebration. Although my summer hat collection is small, this hat always makes me happy. I’m also participating in the fashion parties hosted by Patti and Nanda.

So, which category do you fit into? Do you save your good clothes or wear them often?
