In my previous article, I asked if you could have a minimal wardrobe. Personally, I realize that might be tough for me, but I can definitely make my wardrobe more manageable by keeping only the pieces I truly love and wear often. So, how do you successfully edit your wardrobe to make it both exciting and versatile for different occasions?
Starting The Editing Process:
Even though I enjoy variety too much to be a minimalist with my clothes, I believe having a tidy, uncluttered wardrobe filled with items you love is key to dressing well.
To feel good about your wardrobe, it’s essential to understand your style and personality. Editing your wardrobe is crucial. I’ve decided to cut down on shopping and make better use of the clothes I already have, especially after my major summer sales shopping spree.
Which Clothes To Keep:
Keep clothes that fit you, make you feel great, suit your body type, are in good condition, and that you wear regularly.
Which Clothes Should Go:
Usually, clothes you haven’t worn in a year should go. This rule helps you declutter. You can also place items you seldom wear in a visible spot in your wardrobe; if you don’t wear them in a few weeks, it’s time to let them go.
When sorting, divide your clothes into piles:
– Clothes that must go (note items that need replacing, like staple black pants)
– Clothes for temporary storage
– Clothes that need alterations
– Clothes that definitely stay
– Sentimental items (store these away so you don’t see them daily)
If it’s hard to donate clothes immediately, store them in a secondary cupboard. If they’re still untouched after a few months, it’s time to donate. Act quickly on items that need altering; otherwise, they also go to donation.
You might want to arrange the clothes that stay by color to make it easier to find and mix and match outfits.
Evaluate After Editing:
After editing, take another look at your closet. It should now only have items you love and feel good in. Can you spot any patterns in color or style that indicate your personal taste?
Successful closet editing can reveal a lot about your style. In my next article, I’ll discuss how to store your clothes to make the most of what’s in your closet.
Have you tried editing your wardrobe yet? How did it go for you?
