Minimalism is quite popular these days, with a lot of blogs and websites offering tips on living with less, keeping a simple color scheme, and returning to basics. Personally, I support this idea, especially during the holiday season. I also believe in the concept of doing more with less.
Although I don’t strictly follow minimalism, my home is pretty simple and uncluttered. The space is open, walls are mostly white, allowing the few pieces of art to stand out. Sometimes, I question this approach when I visit places like Sue Kreitzman’s, which inspire me a lot, but I know deep down that simplicity suits me.
I appreciate clean, well-designed things (though my wooden table could use an upgrade!). My preferred clothing style is minimalist yet features interesting architectural designs. I intentionally don’t buy too much; I already have enough clothes and don’t want to keep adding. I try to stick to neutral colors that mix well, with a few prints. Currently, my wardrobe has a lot of white and blue, with a touch of red.
The challenge with minimalism is avoiding boredom. Many minimalist dressers stick to very limited colors and styles, which can make their outfits look alike to outsiders. However, having some consistency is good as it defines your unique style. The trick is to create enough variety within your limited wardrobe to keep it interesting.
Here are some tips on keeping a minimalist wardrobe exciting:
– Stick to a color palette that allows easy mixing and matching.
– Avoid buying multiples of the same item. One blue jumper is enough; consider a cardigan or vest for variety.
– Cover your basics but also include some standout pieces.
– Look for unique shapes or designs in non-basic items to add interest while keeping to your color scheme.
– Wear your items in different ways; for example, a sheer dress can also be a top or a jacket.
– Play with texture by layering and including sheer pieces.
– Most importantly, use accessories to enhance your look.
As my clothing has become more minimalist, my accessories have become more colorful and bold, adding interest to my outfits without overwhelming them. For instance, I love necklaces because they can balance colors and add a chic touch to any outfit. Changing accessories can dramatically alter the vibe, making the same outfit feel new each time.
For me, accessories set the mood of my outfits while my clothes remain basic and simple. This approach allows me to maintain a minimalist wardrobe that stays interesting and diverse. Though I own many accessories, they are key to my style.
I’m excited to share that accessories are the focus of my accessorizing courses, teaching everything from basic use to creating special outfits with accessories. These courses also cover important topics like figure flattery, balance, and silhouette in detail. If you find accessorizing challenging or want to enhance your outfits with minimal effort, you’ll love the accessories course!
